1The graph shows that the population in the world stayed the same before the year 1800.

二、语法和从句分析
1. that 引导宾语从句：“The graph shows that the population… stayed the same”中 that 引导宾语从句，作 shows 的宾语，陈述图表说明的内容。
2. the same 的用法（stay the same）：same 是必须与定冠词 the 连用的形容词，固定形式为 the same，表示“同一个 / 相同的”。在 stayed the same 中，the same 作表语，表示“保持原样、不变”。同类：look the same / feel the same / the same as。
3. there be 句型：“there were about 1.3 billion people / there will be more than 9 billion people”用 there be 表示“存在、有”。
4. 时态运用：讲过去的数据用一般过去时（were, reached, doubled），讲未来预测用一般将来时（will be），这是数据报告的常见写法。
5. more than 的两种用法：
① 后接动词/形容词 → 作程度副词：“more than doubled”中 more than 整体修饰动词 doubled，表“增长幅度超过翻倍（增加超过一倍）”，相当于 increased by more than 100%。再如 Prices more than doubled.（价格涨幅超过一倍）。
② 后接数词/名词 → 表“超过某数量”：“more than 9 billion people”表“超过 90 亿人口”。
① 后接动词/形容词 → 作程度副词：“more than doubled”中 more than 整体修饰动词 doubled，表“增长幅度超过翻倍（增加超过一倍）”，相当于 increased by more than 100%。再如 Prices more than doubled.（价格涨幅超过一倍）。
② 后接数词/名词 → 表“超过某数量”：“more than 9 billion people”表“超过 90 亿人口”。
6. begin + 不定式：“began to rise”中 begin to do 表示“开始做某事”。
7. 数词表达：人口数字用 billion（十亿）为单位：1.3 billion / 2.5 billion / 9 billion，即“13 亿 / 25 亿 / 90 亿”。
8. 表时间的介词（in / between / during / before）：本文用不同介词引出时间，注意区分——
① in：后接具体年份 / 月 / 世纪（In 1850 / in 2050）。
② between … and …：表“在…到…之间”，后接两个时间点（Between 1950 and 2000）。
③ during：表“在…期间”，后接时间段（During the second half of the 1800s）。
④ before：表“在…之前”（before the year 1800）。
① in：后接具体年份 / 月 / 世纪（In 1850 / in 2050）。
